Vermicelli upma/samiya upma

Vermicelli upma is very good to eat as a breakfast especially in week ends :)
The below recipie serves for 2 people.

Ingredients:

MTR vermicelli - 2 Cups
Onions - 1 big (cut into small pieces)
Green Chillies - 4 (cut into small pieces)
Chana dal - 2 tbs
urud daal -2 tbs
Cumin seeds - 1/2 tbs
Curry leaves
mustard seeds -1/2 tbs
Potato - 1 small(peel it and cut into small pieces)
ratio b/w vermicelli and water is 1:11/2(means 1 cup of vermicelli ----->11/2 cup of water)
Coriander leaves for garnishing optional

Preparation:

1.Take a pan and heat it.Add vermicelli and fry it till light brown.


2.Take off the vermicelli from the pan into a bowl and add 3 tbs oil. once the oil gets heated add cumin seeds,urud daal,mustard seeds and curry leaves and chana daal .When all these are fried add potato pieces and fry for 4 min and then add onions and green chilli pieces. stir it for another 5 min.

3.Add 3 cups of water and place a lid on the pan and increas the heat to med- high ,add salt as per taste. After 5-8 minutes when the water starts boiling , add fried vermicelli and mix well and remember to reduce the heat to low and Leave it with lid for 5-8 minutes untill all moisture in the upma gone .Add coriander leaves and stir well for 1-2 minutes.

4.Wow!!!..mouth watering samiya upma is ready to eat.

    I usually prepare this upma but never add Alu.
    Can i suggest u something..
    U can add tomato to improve its taste and color

  6. This is one of my fav weekend breakfasts. I usually top it with sugar and idli podi, never actually tried it with coconut chutney, may be next time I will :)

  7. Do not add potato.in the end, add some lemon juice,it will be tasty.side dish: Heat oil in a pan,put mustard, urudhu dal & dry chilly, turmeric powder and fry, add tomato pieces, fry it till it smashes.Pour this into the curd and add salt to taste, stir it. Eat uppuma with this side dish
